  Ohio Science Talent Expansion Program (OSTEP)

Ohio's Science & Engineering Talent Expansion Program (OSTEP) is a partnership between OSU, Columbus State Community College, Washington State Community College, and Stark State College of Technology to increase the number of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) graduates. This National Science Foundation (NSF) sponsored program is designed to help students transition more easily into STEM majors and give them a head start in both the academic and nonacademic sides of campus life. This program includes student recruitment activities, summer bridge programs, mentoring activities during the academic year, as well as, placement opportunities for internships and/ or undergraduate research.

Goals:

  •   Increase retention and degree attainment of STEM majors at the community college and OSU;
  •   Increase number of students transferring from community colleges to OSU for STEM majors;
  •   Increase number of students interested in STEM careers.

How it works

The Summer Bridge Program consists of:

  •   An academic program in which participants attend rigorous classes that parallel the freshman science, technology, engineering, and math curriculum at OSU as well as professional development activities.
